The post:

This role is responsible for coordinating service delivery for The Bike Station in Perth. Supported by the Senior Management team, you will ensure the successful day-to-day delivery of The Bike Station activity including, refurbishment and sale of donated bikes, the coordination and delivery of training and Fix Your Own sessions and the coordination and delivery of commercial and community events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the administrative duties and tasks to support the day-to-day operations of the social enterprise and charity.
  • Coordinate a smooth working environment through the management of IT and telephone infrastructure and support contracts.
  • Oversee general maintenance and implement fire, health and safety recommendations.
  • Assist in the coordination of regular training, events and activities hosted within The Bike Station.
  • Provide high-quality support to customers including the resolution and closure of complex queries with minimal supervision.
  • Responsible for organising calendars, events and training for the staff team including coordinating training, Dr Bike, public and commercial events.
  • Maintain good relationships with key stakeholders in the region, including suppliers, supporters, referral partners, customers and beneficiaries.
  • Contribute to the development of operating procedures, under guidance from the Production Manager.
  • Ensure best practice across all The Bike Stations systems especially with regard to data protection.
  • Other duties as required.

Person Specification

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years experience delivering administrative support, preferably within the retail or charity sector.
  • Experience of coordinating projects and activities, and meeting targets and objectives within a strategic framework.
  • Experience of managing external stakeholders and a demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain good working relationships.
  • High level of organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail and a thorough and systematic approach to diagnosing and solving problems.

The post:

As part of the Senior Management team, you will be responsible for ensuring The Bike Station achieves its commercial income targets. You will lead on the development of new business and sales opportunities, providing detailed information on clear commercial value. Responsible for the success of the Edinburgh, Perth and Dundee retail environments. In collaboration with the Senior Management team, provide direction and support to the on-site Coordinators to ensure the effective coordination of day to day activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement long term commercial income strategies in support of the charity’s overall strategic vision.
  • Development of new business opportunities, demonstrating commercial value, a clear business case and how it furthers The Bike Station’s charitable objectives.
  • Work in collaboration with Communications and Marketing Manager to support effective external communication and marketing strategies.
  • Responsible for multi-site achievement of retail and sales targets across the organisation.
  • Presentation of alternative sale options for refurbished bikes including pop-up sales, hub and spokes models.
  • Development and maintenance of local partnerships including commercial, third sector and active travel stakeholders in Perth, Edinburgh and Dundee.
  • In collaboration with the Production Manager develop, coordinate and deliver sales and new product training to the Production team.
  • Oversee the activity of the Cycle Friendly Award Officers, developing new business opportunities as a result of their activity.
  • Oversee the development, coordination and successful delivery of commercial offerings, including but not limited to commercial Dr Bike.
  • Oversee the activity of local Coordinators, supporting the achievement of targets, delivering sales and new product training.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Management team, provide direction and support to the on-site Coordinators to ensure the effective coordinators of day to day activities.
  • Development of corporate partnerships to further our commercial and charitable objectives.

Person Specification

Experience:

  • Proven track record of a successful sales growth strategy within local retail and sales
  • Experience of developing new and commercial business opportunities
  • Significant commercial experience within the bicycle trade (or equivalent), including sales, and securing new products for sale
  • Proven experience with accurate sales forecasting, costing and budgeting
  • Strong partnership development, including from commercial, public and third sector organisation
  • Experience of multi-site line management, motivating and supporting teams.
  • Demonstrable experience of maintaining core organisational values when developing corporate partnership
  • Good understanding of the third sector and the financial challenges within the sector

Skills:

The post:

As part of the Senior Management team, you will be responsible for the development and successful delivery of The Bike Station’s communication and marketing strategies. You will lead on the development and integration of evaluation frameworks across the organisation to enable us to clearly demonstrate and communicate the impact and value of our activity. You will be responsible for the impact, quality and improvement of all external communications and marketing, raising our profile, our income and local engagement. The role will lead on the development of all digital and printed marketing materials and fundraising campaigns to engage the public, stakeholders and funders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain robust and effective external communication and marketing strategies to support The Bike Station’s achievement of its organisational objectives.
  • Lead on promoting an evidence-based approach and develop and support an impact and values-based culture within and across The Bike Station.
  • Develop, embed and utilise activity and project level evaluation frameworks, measurements and tools and periodically review and revise the system so that it is adapted appropriately to changing operating contexts.

The Bike Station moves to Perth city centre premises

The Bike Station Perth opened its doors on a new base, the former Peddie’s warehouse at 284 High Street, marking a huge expansion for the Bike Station Perth which has operated from a Mid Friarton Industrial Estate site since 2010 – and giving the large empty city centre property a brand new lease of life.

This new 5,500 square foot space puts our services into a central location with easy access to public transport hubs and adjacent parking.

The Bike Station Perth’s team of six staff and local community volunteers will be able to collect, refurbish and sell (at reasonable prices) many more bikes for all ages, as well as offering an expanded repair and servicing facility.

The Bike Station team collects bikes taken to recycling centres in Perth and Kinross and, along with those donated directly to their shop, carefully services them before selling them on, complete with a three-month warranty, for many more years of use.

Since it opened in 2010, over 22,000 bikes have been collected from throughout Perth and Kinross, with 333 tonnes of waste diverted from landfill. Many of the bikes have only slight faults like punctures – some have been outgrown by their former young owners, and others are just unwanted and unused.

Bike Station board member and environment vice-convener, Councillor Mike Williamson, said: “The opportunity to reuse and recycle bikes in Perth and Kinross has just become even easier. The Bike Station Perth is now in the city centre, which can only be a positive thing for residents, the environment and the charity.”

Mark Sinclair, manager of The Bike Station Perth, added: “Our team is dedicated to cycling, checking, sorting, cleaning bikes, and we want to help encourage you to get on your bike with us and enjoy getting a little fitter in body and mind.

“We have worked really hard as a team to move as fast as possible into this really exciting new building, and once complete we will be able to offer our customers an amazing experience, with more bikes and accessories on display in our showroom. Our repair and servicing facility will also be improved to offer a more customer friendly experience.”
