Other Community Projects
It's not just Shifting Gears, we also do a range of other community work across Edinburgh and Perth.
Prison Project
The Bike Station has worked alongside the Scottish Prison Service since 2006. In 2011, the Bike Station Prisons project was expanded with funding from the Robertson Trust. Currently, we are supporting the continuation of bicycle maintenance workshops in four prisons, including HMYOI Polmont, HMP Perth, and HMP Edinburgh, HMP Shotts.
The bike sheds within the prison setting are designed to offer opportunities to develop vocational skills through learning bicycle maintenance. Each prison has a different operational model, including frequency of sessions and duration of the programme.
Venture Trust
We work alongside Venture Trust, providing opportunities to young people excluded from traditional education to increase their motivation and self-confidence, develop vocational and employability skills, and support their progression towards positive destinations.
Our joint aim is to increase health and wellbeing and improve life and employment opportunities. We have been delivering this in partnership for over three years, providing bikes, training, and our friendly and professional support as part of this activity.
