Perth School Bike Library

The Perth School Bike Library was set up at the end of 2020 in partnership with I Bike (a Sustrans scheme run in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council) and Bikeability.

The program continues to lend bikes to P5-P7 children – who for financial reasons may not otherwise have access to a bike – for the school year. Helmet, lights and lock are also included. To help children get the most from their new bikes, I Bike is providing after school cycling training sessions to the pupils.

We have donated bikes to the program and are also acting as a collection point for people to donate their own used bikes.

How you can help

Have you got an old bike taking up space and gathering cobwebs in the shed? We can help recycle it and give to a loving home for someone who desperately wants to ride it! We are looking for bikes with a 24” wheel or above (for pupils in P5 upwards).

We are happy to take donations of all conditions, even if they are broken…our ‘Bike Doctors’ will resuscitate them and give them a new life!

To donate please take bikes to our Perth branch and let the mechanics know that the bike is for the “School Bike Library”.  Our opening hours for donations are on Fridays and Saturday from 10:00 – 4:30.

The Bike Library is currently trialling at a few schools, but we are hopeful that with enough donations, it will expand to more schools across Perth and Kinross.

It has been great to see more families get into cycling during the pandemic, and discover how much it can improve their health, fitness and wellbeing.  But the boom in cycling has made some bikes difficult to buy and the expense can be out of reach for some families. Please consider donating your old bikes!
