Zero Waste Space: Frequently Asked Questions
What type of activities can I use the Space for?
The Zero Waste Space was funded by Zero Waste Perth in 2019 to be used by the community as a workshop hub and meeting space, primarily for reuse & repair and other environmentally positive activities – eg. furniture repair, sewing workshops, upcycling activities, art projects, environmental film screenings and discussions. We’re open to lots of different community uses though, so just get in touch and ask.
“Do not disturb” events
The Zero Waste Space is shared during opening hours (10am-5pm) with the Bike Station Perth, so isn’t really suitable as a quiet space or for events requiring privacy. However, if you want to use the Space in the evening and require quiet or privacy simply tell us on the booking form by checking the “Do Not Disturb” box.
When is the Space available?
The Space is bookable Monday-Saturday, 10:00-17:00; or until 20:00 by arrangement. Check our online calendar for available slots.
How much does it cost?
There is currently no charge for booking the Space during “off-peak” hours (10am-5pm) provided it is being used for reuse & repair workshops or those with an environmental theme. However, there may be a charge for using the Space for commercial activities and/or during “peak” times, ie. outside usual shop opening hours (10:00-17:00); this is to cover additional staffing and service costs. Get in touch to see if a cost will apply to your booking.
How do I book?
First of all, check our online calendar below to see if your preferred date is free and you can book from there. Or in person at the Bike Station Perth, 284 High Street, Perth PH1 5QS. Your booking is only final when you receive confirmation.
Regular once a month recurrent bookings are no problem; Just complete a booking form and include the dates you would like. Similarly, if you want to run a weekly course for a limited time (eg. four or six weeks) just complete the booking form with the dates you would like. If you are interested in a longer-term weekly recurring booking, best to have a chat with us about it. Email us or pop into the shop.
What about set-up/clean-up time?
Please allow for this as part of your start and finish times on the booking form. We really need to be locking up no longer than 20:30, so be nice to us and take that into account when you’re arranging your event timings.
Is there car parking available?
Car parking is available in the Perth & Kinross Council Thimblerow car park directly opposite the Bike Station. Charges are £1.20 per hour until 18:00 (Free after that time).
Are there catering facilities available?
Tea and coffee are provided, along with hot water flasks. (Feel free to put a little contribution in the tea/coffee jar!) Best to take along your own fresh milk and biccies though.
Are there tables and chairs provided?
Yes, we have 30 folding chairs and both meeting tables and art tables available. You will be responsible for setting these up and ensuring they are put away following your event. Please note, we advise that two people are needed to safely move, set-up and take down tables.
What other facilities are available?
There is Wi-Fi on-site, and we have a laptop, high-quality projector and screen for presentations, slide shows and film screenings*; fixed and mobile workbenches; hand and power tools; sewing machines; hand/brush washing sinks; and an accessible toilet.
Is the Space accessible?
Yes, the whole Space is wheelchair accessible and an accessible toilet and handwashing facilities are provided.
*The hirer is responsible for obtaining the proper copyright and licence permissions for film screenings.
