When we saw the impact Covid-19 was going to have on our community, we realised we could help. Transportation during the first national lockdown became restricted, and key-workers who couldn’t work from home had an increased risk of exposure and less transport options available.
We started Hero Bikes to provide free bikes to key workers during the first national lockdown.
Our Heroes also received a free helmet, light kit, and lock.
“I have used it almost every day since I got it, mostly to go to work but also for exercise and pleasure. I do feel fitter now than when I first got the bike and have recently been given a tagalong bike so I can take my youngest grandson along with his siblings on cycle rides.“Yvonne, pupil support assistant, Perth
Some of our hero bike recipients have also gone on to help fundraise for The Bike Station (if Carol’s reading – we really loved those hats you knitted for us) and we also owe a massive thanks to everyone who participated in interviews for The Guardian and the BBC.
